Ralph Klein’s Wicked Pitching Arm

Policy book that [Alberta Premier] Klein threw at page on the block at eBay
What were you doing on March 1, 2006? And I don’t mean reading Wikipedia’s 1 millionth article.
Well, I’ll tell you what Ralph Klein, Alberta’s Progressive Conservative Premier was doing. He was whipping a book at a teenaged girl - in the legislature.
But that’s not the story today. Oh, no… the book has gained some measure of fame, it seems. Fame enough to be worth something on The Popular Online Auction Site.
An Edmonton lawyer, who is aparently a big fan of military artefacts (according to his buying/selling history at that Popular Online Auction Site (his username is “moparrr”)), is representing the seller of the book, who is giving the all the proceeds to charity.
It’s nice to see a Good Thing coming from a Bad Thing done by a Bad Man.

Quite remarkable.
We’ve got plenty of that here still (even after Tom Delay’s departure), but we don’t get much press.
Yeah, that was pretty big news locally back in March. Though Klein’s apology at the time was rather weak, I’m glad to see that the girl is donating the proceeds to charity.
…though for a guy named McEwan, that lawyer has a rather odd preoccupation with the Austrian military in the First World War. Also, personally, I’ll kinda miss Klein once he steps down simply for the entertainment value(though that waned a bit once he got sober). For most Albertans, the man was more a mascot than a figure of authority, and that’s the position we’ve come to expect for our Premier. That’s why I think Preston Manning on a daily two-drink minimum would be a pretty good replacement.
Ralph Klein made it okay to make fun of Alberta. Once he’s gone, I might have to think about decorum and politeness. :-/
Wikipedia: Now with over a million reasons to stop and wonder about accuracy!
Anyone who takes anything that they read *anywhere* as the gospel without verifying it first deserves to be duped. At least Wikipedia has an established policy of citation that requires (at least in spirit) all facts to be backed up with sources.
LOL! Decorum and politeness? What the hell! Who are you?! You are not the same caustically-witted (yikes!) fellow I knew… oh, say it ain’t so… say it ain’t so…
{{mutters to herself as she walks away}} Decorum and politeness… egad…
Heh… our political culture is usually so party-based, rather than individual, that when things like this happen the spotlight shines brightly.
The policy and the tripe I’ve read are two completely different things. :-)
