Hasbro Makes Original Monopoly Has-Been

July 26th, 2006 | by MadHacktress |

Hasbro Inc. of Britain announced that it will release a version of the everyone-owns-it classic, Monopoly, in a very new and updated form: cashless. The company noted that more and more people are carrying cash less and less.

In the words of a company spokesman, “we started looking at what Monopoly would look like if we designed it today.”

The American arm of Hasbro Inc. has indicated that it will likely follow suit with its British counterpart, making the same offering in the not-too-distant future.

I am a bit of a Monopoly purist myself. I won’t be embracing the new Visa-featuring version of the game. It’s nice to know that the original version of the game is still available - just as it was in 1935.

Maybe it’s a Canadian thing, after all, our money is “Monopoly money” after all, isn’t it?

Hell yeah I’m in agreement with you. I thought this was a rediculously stupid idea. Not to mention, if they’d designed it as a “game” to day, then it would be a generic Credit Card reader. Not a co-branded VISA card.

See, all the cool kids buy things on credit! You want to be cool don’t you? *sigh*
