Yeah, I realize that the NDP has little support outside of the cities and some of the poors of the rural areas. But it would have been nice if people who disagree with the conservative stance, rather than lodging their protest vote with the conservative and hoping for the best, would have voted for the NDP instead. But I realize that this is probably unrealistic, especially given the experience in Ontario when the NDP was in control. It's just my being idealistic and thinking that should vote for who they agree with, rather than who is a "realistic" choice. *shrugs*

We have more than two choices to vote for, yes... but, realistically, we only have two viable options for forming a government - without coalitions. Since this country has never seen a coalition government we're not that much different than the States. We've got as close to a two party system as they do. It's more of a two-and-a-half party system with the Bloc, but they can never form a government.

It would be nice for the NDP to be a viable choice in this country, giving us a third party... but, unfortunately, their platform is just too left wing for our country. Ontario has a bad history with the NDP in power and a government in Ottawa needs the backing of Ontario for a majority.

I'd still rather have your system with more than just two choices, though. Especially with the way that the one is trying so hard to mimic the other. Politics in this country really suck.

The Bloc definitely makes it rough. Just looking at the math of it, the Bloc has recently done a good job of getting about 50-ish seats... that leaves 103, after the majority (155) is achieved, for the rest of the parties.

We may see our first real coalition government before all of this is done... or we'll be up to the 50th Parliament before the end of the decade.

I wonder if the Bloc is what is going to make it so difficult for there to be a majority in the coming years. Of course, without the Bloc, the majority governments very well could be Conservative, too.
